Branson is the south end of the run, in Taney County, with Lake Taneycomo running through town and Table Rock behind the dam west of it. The ground is limestone and dolomite bluff country, which is why so much of the housing sits on a cut into a hillside with a view off the back of it.

A cut like that has a bank above the house or a drop below it, and usually both. Holding that bank is what makes a back yard usable, and once it is held, a patio on top of it is worth building properly. Steps and driveways on a grade are the other half: what is merely steep in July is a problem in an ice storm, so tread depth and drainage are worth more thought here than on flat ground.
